Liveblogging
Had a conversation about liveblogging today and it got me thinking why I can’t do it. I’ve tried before, but I always inevitably get no more than a couple posts in before I give up. I think about doing it regularly because it seems like an easy way to post more on social media and start more conversations. I enjoy watching people do it because it’s fun to see people react to whatever they’re watching (it’s also led to me discovering new shows and movies and the like). I just don’t have the focus for it.
If I’m engaging with something, I am focused. I want to give whatever I’m doing my full attention and sit with it. Stopping whatever I’m doing – playing a game, reading a book, watching a movie or TV show – to make a post about it interrupts that focus and invites distraction. Posting throwaway thoughts or actual observations while actively engaging with media is hard because I end up thinking about posts rather than giving whatever I’m doing my full attention. In part that’s because I’ve never been able to just make a post without giving it some measure of thought, so I end up spending several minutes or more on what should be a quick throwaway post (like this one!).
